Mons Meg is Edinburgh's premier Rapper dance side, founded in September 2006.
Rapper is a form of linked (hilt and point) sword dancing which emerged from the mining communities of Northumberland and County Durham during the nineteenth century. Five dancers perform intricate figures while linked together by Rapper "swords", finishing with the swords tied together to form a star which is held aloft. You can find photographs and videos of us in our Gallery.
You will also find us on MySpace and you can meet the team Here.
If you are interested in finding out more about Rapper and what we do then please explore the pages on this website. We usually practice in the back room of the Carriers Quarters in Leith on a Monday night from around 7.30.
We are always interested in meeting musicians who are either experienced at playing for dancing or keen to learn (practice some tunes in 6/8 at around 140-150 bpm!) and to find out more. We currently dance to Northumbrian Pipes and would be happy to hear also from other pipers (especially small pipes), whistle players, melodeon players and fiddlers.
Dancers are also welcome to come along but please first and let us know your level of experience.
